UNIVERSITY OF HUDDERSFIELD - BREAK OUT AREA RUG

I was recently approached to create a custom made rug to be fitted into this break out area for students at University of Huddersfield , Canal Side West Campus, West Yorkshire, UK.

The stone floor in this converted mill was listed and therefore could not be damaged or any adhesives used.

The area needed to be templated to allow us to have a physical record of the area as no accurate plans existed of the seating and podium.

Each colour was custom dyed to match a set of colours that was chosen for the laminate treatments to be used in the interior.

The start of the semi circular rug being made in the studio in Mirfield.

The fitted rug was made slightly oversized to allow for it to be fitted around the seating area.

The front leading edges were "Taped and Turned" and slightly chamfered to prevent them being a trip hazard in this high traffic reception area.

The finished rug echoed the newly fitted circular lighting as well as the new interior colour scheme.

CARRIE SCOTT-HUBY & ANDREW @ THE HEPWORTH

I had a wonderful day just recently at The Hepworth Wakefield with the even more wonderful Carrie Scott-Huby. These are just some of the amazing exhibits that are on at the moment. I have not included the Barbara Hepworth pieces as they need a posting of their own. Enjoy and have a look at the video at the end.

LAURA SLATER - HAND TUFTED RUG DESIGN

Laura Slater is a multidisciplinary textile designer working across printed, constructed and embroidered textiles for textile solutions for the body or space (fashion or interiors). She has been developing her practice since completing her MA in Mixed Media Textiles at The Royal College of Art.

Her work is about the use of the hand created specifically through drawing concepts and colour into the making process.

She embrace the use of traditional textile techniques and her work aims to challenge the reinvention and reinterpretation of their presence within contemporary design and bespoke outcomes.

This design collection evolved from the development of exploring the use of architectural qualities of line and linear drawing concepts and the interaction of colour and pattern.

Working with a selected colourway and the idea of evolving random linear compositions through folding development, I felt as though this collection has lent itself to bespoke handtufting rug design applications.
